Protecting Your Vehicle from Theft

  • Park Strategically. Be conscious that you are parking in a safe area and if you can, try to park in a well-lit spot. This will help your vehicle be less of a target.
  • Keep valuables out of sight. Sometimes we leave our valuable items in our vehicle, but this is not always safe. It encourages thieves to break in and take your valuables. Be sure to take your valuables with you or to hide them so they are out of sight.
  • Make sure windows are shut and doors are locked. Leaving your windows open might seem like a good idea to regulate the temperature of your vehicle’s interior (especially in the summertime), but it makes it an easy target. Double-check that windows are shut and the doors are locked every time you get out of your vehicle.
  • Have an anti-theft system installed. Most vehicles today come with an anti-theft system but if your vehicle does not have one, be sure to get one installed!
