2020 Nissan Altima Performance Specs
The automotive market is packed with an unending lineup of midsize sedans, but not all of them can offer what the 2020 Nissan Altima does. Completely redesigned just last year, the new-generation Altima has all that you demand from a midsize family sedan, and much more. A stylish and sporty look, generous passenger space, and tons of technology are some of its appealing traits, but what sets this model apart from the competition is under the hood. Unlike rivals such as the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry, the new Altima offers all-wheel drive and a unique VC-Turbo engine. Do you want to know more? How Many Engines Are Available on the 2020 Nissan Altima?
2.5-Liter Direct Injection Gasoline V4 Engine
Standard on each 2020 Altima sits a 2.5-liter direct-injection 4-cylinder engine matched to an Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that produces 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain was first introduced in the 2019 model and features 80% new or redesigned parts compared to the previous generation design. Because of this, the new Altima is able to deliver quicker, quieter, and smoother performance, while also providing better fuel economy.
All trims come standard with Front-Wheel Drive, but an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system is available as an upgrade for those who seek peace of mind when driving under inclement weather conditions. This drivetrain uses an advanced system that continuously monitors road conditions and automatically redistributes torque to the wheels that can use it best.
The Front-Wheel Drive S, SV and SL trims get a phenomenal EPA-estimated fuel economy of 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 32 mpg combined. The SR and the range-topping Platinum get 27, 37, and 31 mpg respectively. AWD drops all figures by two mpg.
2.0-Liter Variable Compression Turbo Engine
The most notorious upgrade made to the new-generation Altima is the replacement of the previous 3.5-liter V6 engine for the automaker’s first-ever produced Variable Compression Turbo engine. While other engines must deal with a fixed compression ratio, the VC-Turbo raises and lowers the pistons’ reach seamlessly to provide the same balance of power and efficiency regardless of the situation. As a result, this new engine delivers the performance of a V6 powertrain and the fuel economy of a V4.
The VC-Turbo engine is only available as an upgrade on the SR and Platinum trims. When fed with premium fuel, it delivers up to 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, making the Altima significantly quicker. Despite this increase in power, the VC-Turbo trims earn an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined, which represents a 15% increase over the previous engine.
